“A hard earned and well won, magnificent set of GCSE results” at St Joseph’s Catholic High School

• 58% of students gaining 5 GCSEs 9-5+ Inc. English and Maths
• 72% of students gaining 5 GCSEs 9-4+ Inc. English and Maths
• 40% of the cohort gained the EBacc (9-4 inc. English Language and Literature, Maths, Science, Spanish or French and either Geography or History).

Ciran Stapleton, Head Teacher, said:

“The students of St Joseph’s should celebrate their outcomes with justified pride. The Teacher Assessed Grades we submitted was outcome of a process whereby students were able to provide evidence of what they could produce outside of an examination process. Nevertheless there was a rigorous process undertaken by all the staff, standardised by other schools, internally moderated and sampled by the Exam Boards which took into account the students two sets of mock results and a Summer Series of assessments of unseen full past papers, marked to the exam specification criteria. The students had to work extremely hard to earn these grades and we’re sure they are a true reflection and a more rounded account of what they can achieve – which has been far greater than what the national expectation might have asked of them. Consequently it shouldn’t be any surprise that this year’s cohort is one of the highest performing cohorts the school has ever seen. The really good news is that this cohort has shown themselves to be a talented and commitment group of young people representative of everyone in our community”.

“The students at St Joseph’s have performed to one of the highest levels of performance the school has ever seen.  The Teacher Assessed Grades we submitted was the process of a rigorous process including 3 sets of mock exams/ assessment from last September – which included unseen full past papers, marked to the exam specification criteria and standardised - so we’re sure they are a true reflection of their ability. We don’t select success here, we unlock it. What no-one should forget is that this year all the staff and students have done an incredible amount of work to ensure that our students have the best and fairest system in a world with no formal exams”.
